Behavior Modification/Rehabilitation
Heart to Heart believes that no dog is ever beyond help. Every dog deserves a chance to live
a happy well balanced life. This includes dogs with long-term behavioral problems. Yes they can
change. Sometimes much quicker than you'd ever expect. A strong knowledge of canine psychology greatly
helps. Heart to Heart's experienced trainer and canine specialist, Nan has created her exclusive "Peace in the Pack" an individualized program with emphasis on behavior modification based on posive reinforcement and on directions from the true apha, the canine mother of the pack. Nan has been working with "unadoptable"dogs with behavior
problems for many years at numerous animal shelters in the area with successful results.
Canine Psychology
In Nan's exclusive program, "Peace in the Pack," Heart to Heart not only trains and rehabilitates dogs but also enlightens people about how their
dogs react and respond. Most of Heart to Heart's training is done from understanding the canine perspective,
understanding how a dog acts and reacts in "the pack", their true heritage. It's unfair and unrealistic to expect
them to totally adapt into our society without first understanding how to reach them and how they "think."
It's an amazing transformation that can sometimes be instananeous, when we approach them from their perspective
and train accordingly. Many behavior problems can automatically cease the moment the dog learns what is
expected of him. We just need to learn the "language." Heart to Heart can show you how.
Problem Solving
This is where working one to one really works. Heart to Heart specializes in problem solving and working
directly with you dog for individual solutions to the specific problems. Sometimes it can benefit both
you and your dog to work from the location where the problem occurs. like a certain area of your
home or yard. Heart to Heart can offer various ways to deal with many problems. And know that no problem
is ever unsolveable.
Socialization
Proper socialization is probably the single most important thing that will guard against aggression.
Many dogs can develop socialization issues. In fact many of those issues can develop from lack of proper
socialization or improper socialization from puppyhood especially at the Optimum Bonding Period (from 7 week on) and the
General Socialization Period (7 to 16 weeks). Another term for socialization is "de-sensitization", exposing the dog
to the enviornment in small increments, and by helping the dog to make positive associations to those
specific things. Heart to Heart knows that even older dogs with poor socialization can overcome this with positive
exposure, praise and affection.
